Information about Eyelid lift

Eyelid lift surgery—known in technical terms as blepharoplasty—is a surgical procedure to correct drooping eyelids. The aim of eyelid surgery is to remove age-related changes such as drooping eyelids or bags under the eyes. Physical complaints such as visual impairment or eye irritation are eliminated. The eye area regains its youthful appearance and looks fresher and clearer.

The team of specialists at KALEIDOSCOP led by Dr. Köhler performs eyelid lifts in Zurich using a variety of individually selected surgical techniques. We distinguish between upper eyelid lift surgery, also known as drooping eyelid surgery, and lower eyelid lift surgery to correct bags under the eyes. Both procedures can also be performed as a combined eyelid lift. Dr. Köhler precisely coordinates the corrections to achieve a naturally rejuvenated eye area in just one procedure.

The decision to have an eyelid lift in Zurich is often based on aesthetic reasons. Many people suffer from the changes that appear in the Periorbital area over the years. However, drooping upper eyelids can also cause discomfort. In this case, Dr. Köhler takes medical and aesthetic factors into account when planning the treatment.

Possible reasons for eyelid lifting in Zurich may include:

  • drooping upper eyelids (hooded eyelids)
  • Physical complaints such as visual impairment or eye pressure
  • Permanently visible bags under the eyes
  • the desire for a fresher and more alert appearance
  • Correction of eye wrinkles and uneven skin appearance
  • Restoration of youthful radiance

Our aim is to help you achieve a new sense of well-being and self-confidence with an individually planned eyelid lift in Zurich.

The primary goal of eyelid surgery is to correct age-related changes. By tightening the eyelids, we restore your eyes' youthful radiance. Your eyes immediately appear more alert, clearer, and fresher. The puffy and tired impression that so often accompanies drooping eyelids is eliminated.

Our team of specialists led by Dr. Köhler strives to achieve a result that rejuvenates the eye area in a lasting way while still looking natural. Your individual eye shape is not changed, but attractively emphasized with precise corrections.

Eyelid lifting in Zurich brings out your younger self again—radiant, vital, and with your unmistakable charisma.

Preparation for treatment

Before your eyelid lift in Zurich, we invite you to an in-depth consultation. Dr. Köhler will advise you competently and sensitively on how the disturbing changes can be reversed with precise corrections. Depending on your individual situation, various surgical techniques may be considered, which Dr. Köhler will discuss with you in detail.

It is also important to us to provide you with thorough information about the risks involved. You will learn in detail what to expect after your eyelid lift in Zurich and what to look out for during aftercare. If you have any pre-existing conditions or take medication regularly, you should inform us of this. Under certain circumstances, additional preliminary examinations may be necessary.

We recommend that you refrain from smoking for several weeks before and after your eyelid lift in Zurich. Medications with anticoagulant effects, such as Aspirin® or Marcumar®, should be discontinued in consultation with Dr. Köhler if necessary.

Performing the eyelid lift

Eyelid lift surgery is performed in Zurich under Local anesthesia or sedation7 twilight sleep and takes about 60-90 minutes, depending on the extent of the procedure. In the case of a combined lower and upper eyelid lift, the treatment time may be extended accordingly. As a rule, the operation can be performed on an Outpatient basis. The exact procedure depends on the desired corrections.

An upper eyelid lift (drooping eyelid surgery) is usually performed via short incisions along the natural eyelid crease. The fine scars are barely visible afterwards. Under the direction of Dr. Köhler, sagging skin and excess adipose tissue are removed. The muscles are often gently tightened to achieve a lasting Lifting effect.

In lower eyelid correction, the skin incisions run close to the eyelashes, where they should heal almost invisibly. To correct bags under the eyes, Dr. Köhler removes sagging skin and prolapsed adipose tissue. Occasionally, the adipose tissue is also redistributed to conceal dark circles under the eyes. If necessary, more severely sagging skin can be tightened using special suture techniques in the outer corner of the eyelid.

Follow-up treatment

Eyelid lifting is performed on an Outpatient basis in Zurich, so you can return home on the day of treatment. Please note that you are not allowed to actively participate in road traffic for up to 24 hours after the operation. We therefore recommend that you arrange for someone to accompany you to your appointment or pick you up afterwards.

Physical rest is particularly recommended for recovery. Avoid sudden head movements and sleep in a slightly elevated position for the first few days. We advise you to reduce your mobile phone and computer screen time after your eyelid lift in Zurich. If possible, avoid direct sunlight to prevent Pigmentation disorders in the area of the fine Scars.

Immediately after your eyelid lift in Zurich, the treatment area will be cooled to reduce swelling. You can continue cooling at home. The stitches will be removed about 5 to 7 days after the eyelid correction. After a week at the latest, the small surgical wounds should have healed enough for you to be socially presentable again. At this point, you can also start wearing makeup again.

Frequently asked questions about eyelid lift

It can take several months for the healing to be complete. However, around 3 weeks after your eyelid lift in Zurich, the visible signs of treatment should have faded enough for the initial results to be visible. At this point, you will no longer be restricted in your everyday life.

You will not experience any pain during your eyelid lift in Zurich thanks to the additional Local anesthesia. Even after the eyelid correction, severe discomfort is rare. Dr. Köhler will prescribe a suitable pain medication that you can take as needed.

Eyelid surgery permanently rejuvenates the eye area. You will therefore benefit from your treatment for many years to come. Skin aging will naturally continue after the procedure, but at a significantly slower rate. If excess tissue forms again at a later date, the eyelid lift in Zurich can be repeated without any problems.

Possible side effects of eyelid surgery in Zurich include redness, swelling, and bruising. Mild sensitivity to light or temporary numbness are also not uncommon after eyelid correction.

A rare but serious complication is blindness as a result of post-operative bleeding. To prevent this, the team of specialists at KALEIDOSCOP ensures meticulous preparation and follow-up care, as well as professional blood supply during the procedure.

In the event of overcorrection, problems with eyelid closure may occur, which Dr. Köhler avoids by carefully checking during the operation.

The scars from eyelid correction are very fine and should be barely visible to the naked eye after healing. In upper eyelid surgery, the incisions are made exactly along the eyelid crease. In lower eyelid surgery, the fine incisions are made close to the lash line. In both cases, this allows for excellent aesthetic results without noticeable scars.

As a rule, you will be able to resume your normal social activities no later than one week after your eyelid lift in Zurich. Slight swelling or bruising should subside within a few days.

Two weeks after your eyelid lift in Zurich, the wounds should have healed enough for you to carefully apply makeup to the periorbital area again.

Dr. Köhler will remove the stitches about 5 to 7 days after your eyelid lift in Zurich. At this time, he will perform an initial follow-up examination and discuss the healing process with you.
